YWCA works with women and girls to support them through local centres to build their capacity and confidence in achieving change for themselves and within the communities where they live. Increasingly, their participation in the organisation itself is understood to be fundamental to realising these goals. Women and girls are playing an ever growing part in shaping its values and ethos, its purpose and direction, its campaigns and national influence. But these are hard times. Isn’t participation a luxury we can no longer afford? What are the tangible benefits to an organisation’s competitive edge, distinctive voice and delivering outcomes for funders? Ali Thomas and Paula Jackson-Key are the participation leads across YWCA, funded in part from a BIG Lottery programme. In this short vide clip they explore three questions:

  • What’s changed for women and girls through their participation across YWCA this last year?
  • What has helped and hindered their increased voice and influence?
  • What are the key challengers and opportunities ahead, given these difficult times?
